The tense situation in the Sumy region of Ukraine is alarming analysts and military experts, as the Russians are actively using subversive intelligence groups. This is confirmed by reports on the detection and termination of the activities of such groups by Ukrainian defenders.
This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War.
In particular, the Russian media blogger stated that Russian sabotage and intelligence groups entered Oleksandrivka and Popivka, Sumy region, and that Ukrainian forces are no longer present in the two settlements. Millblogger noted that Russian troops have not yet started offensive operations in the area.
"Russian sabotage and intelligence activities are probably aimed at attracting and entrenching Ukrainian forces on a wider front in the international border zone, although this activity may foreshadow future offensive operations by Russia," experts believe.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said on May 26 that Russian troops are concentrating groups of an unknown number near the border with Ukraine, 90 kilometers northwest of the city of Kharkiv, in order to prepare for new offensive actions.
"Russian troops could launch an offensive from this area south toward Zolochiv and Bogodukhov, two Ukrainian cities northwest of Kharkiv within 25 kilometers of the international border, or west toward populated areas along the R-45 route. Recent Russian sabotage and reconnaissance activities have occurred in both directions and are likely aimed at supporting Russia's efforts to create operational ambiguity in the area," the experts added.
