Sushi and rolls have long been a favorite food of Ukrainians. They are ordered for corporate parties, romantic dinners, and quick snacks. They seem light and healthy, but doctors warn: this dish can have a downside.
The biggest risk is raw fish. It can harbor parasites, including anisocids, which can cause serious gastrointestinal damage. Add to this the possibility of salmonella or listeria infection if the fish was stored in a manner that violates sanitary standards, and a light dinner can turn into a long treatment.
Another trap is the rice base. To give it a characteristic taste, it is seasoned with a mixture of vinegar, sugar and salt. As a result, even a small set of rolls can contain 400–500 kcal and cause sharp jumps in blood sugar levels. So it is better to choose options with less rice or share the dish with friends.
Just a few spoonfuls of soy sauce can cover your daily sodium intake. This puts a strain on the heart and kidneys, increases blood pressure, and contributes to edema. Doctors advise using it in minimal quantities or choosing a low-salt version.
Rolls with cream cheese, mayonnaise, or fried in tempura are a real "calorie bomb." In terms of nutritional value, they can easily be compared to a burger. Trans fats and excess calories are not the best addition to a healthy diet. On the other hand, the classics - salmon, avocado, cucumber - remain healthy and tasty.
Experts emphasize: sushi is not a forbidden product, but it is important to know the measure. Choose proven establishments, give preference to rolls with fish and vegetables, do not abuse sauces. In this case, the dish will retain both its taste and benefits.
