Ukraine is experiencing a significant increase in the number of divorce and alimony cases. Judge-speaker of the Desnyanskyi District Court of Kyiv, Valeria Bobko, noted in an interview with Ukrainian Radio that before the full-scale war, it was mostly women who filed lawsuits, but now the situation has changed: more men are filing for divorce.
Valeria Bobko explained that this trend is due to the large number of women who have left Ukraine. “And we understand why this happened. But, obviously, love could not stand it. Sometimes women find their happiness there. And men have no choice but to file for divorce,” she noted. Bobko also emphasized that this is often due to communication problems with children who remained abroad. The father cannot go abroad, and the child does not want to come because of fear, which is also understandable.
In the first six months of 2024, one divorce occurred for every five marriages. The number of divorce cases increased by one and a half times compared to the same period in 2023. In total, in January-June, Ukrainians created 72.7 thousand new families, which is 15% less than in 2023.
In order to simplify the marriage procedure, the state application “Diya” has introduced the ability to complete the full cycle of marriage online: from submitting an application to receiving a certificate. The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine noted that thanks to this feature, military personnel and couples who are at a distance can get married, even if they are far from each other.
