In Ukraine, pensioners have access to a number of benefits that even the elderly themselves are often unaware of. In addition to the pension supplement, Ukrainian pensioners can take advantage of the following benefits in 2024:
- Free travel on public transport. Pensioners are entitled to free travel on public transport (except minibuses) and suburban trains if they have a pension certificate with them.
- Cancellation of land tax. According to Article 281.1 of the Tax Code of Ukraine, pensioners are exempt from paying land tax.
- Free utilities. According to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 389, pensioners who live in rural areas and worked as teachers, librarians, doctors, or cultural workers before retirement can receive a 100% discount on housing and communal services, fuel, and gas.
- Subsidies for pensioners. Pensioners can apply for subsidies for utility services at the social service by submitting documents to the Pension Fund branch.
- Free legal aid. All elderly people are entitled to free primary legal aid. Secondary legal aid is available provided that the pension does not exceed 4,722 hryvnias or 6,056 hryvnias for persons with disabilities. To receive assistance, you can contact the nearest legal aid office or call the hotline 0800 213 103.
- Free parking. Few seniors know that they can park their cars for free in paid parking lots, according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 585.
These benefits can significantly ease the financial burden of older people in Ukraine, so it is important to know about your rights and opportunities.
