Japan has decided to provide Ukraine with $37 million in aid, which will be used to purchase drone detection systems. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa announced this during a joint briefing with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
“I strongly condemn Russia’s continuous missile and drone attacks, including attacks on various areas, including Kyiv, even during the New Year holidays. I express my sincere condolences to the victims of these attacks and express my respect for the courage of the Ukrainian people who are steadfastly defending themselves against Russian aggression. Japan intends to actively support Ukraine to restore peace,” the minister said.
She also indicated that her visit to Kyiv is evidence of Japan's support for Ukraine, which is being implemented by providing financial assistance of $37 million for the purchase of drone detection systems.
"In order to help Ukrainians survive the winter, Japan is also providing 5 mobile gas turbine generators and 7 transformers, which will be officially handed over today by the Japanese Foreign Minister," Kamikawa added.
The Minister also expressed her intention to support the Ukrainian sectors of education, healthcare, and the construction of shelters for women and children. It is important to note that the briefing took place in a shelter due to an air raid warning in Kyiv.
