Friends and colleagues are leaving heartfelt words for Matthew Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the cult series “Friends.” Following the actor’s unexpected death, his friend and co-star Jennifer Aniston has spoken out about Perry’s final moments.
In a statement to Variety, Aniston said that Matthew's final days were happy, healthy and filled with hope for a full recovery. With tears in her eyes, she shared that on the last day of the actor's life, they spoke, and she confirmed that he was feeling well and taking steps towards freedom from his destructive addiction to alcohol and drugs.
“He was happy. He was healthy. He quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy, that’s all I know. He wasn’t in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy. I want people to know that he was truly healthy and recovering. He was in the running. He worked so hard. He really had a hard time. I miss him so much. We all miss him. Boy, he made us laugh so much. I hope he knew he was loved in a way he never knew he was,” Jennifer Aniston said.
Perry, who died at the age of 54, had a long battle with drug and alcohol addiction. He himself admitted to this struggle in his memoirs, “Friends, Lovers and One Big Trouble,” which were published shortly before his death. The memoirs show that after many years of suffering, operations and being on the verge of life and death, he managed to overcome addiction. Matthew Perry decided to use his experience to help others who found themselves in similar situations.
The death of the actor, who was found dead in his own hot tub, left his devoted fans with a great loss, and their warm memories of him underscore his importance in the history of film and television.
