Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton has expressed skepticism about Donald Trump's claims that he would end the war between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours. In his comments to American media, Bolton stressed that such ideas are far from reality and could jeopardize security in the region.
US President-elect Donald Trump is “exaggerating a bit” by claiming he can end the war in Ukraine in just 24 hours.
“He [Trump] said he would get [Kremlin dictator] Vladimir Putin and [Ukrainian President] Volodymyr Zelensky in a room and they would solve the Ukraine problem in 24 hours – good luck with that,” former US national security adviser John Bolton said in an interview with Sky News.
The expert also noted that he was telling the truth on another issue. This concerns Trump's words that there were no "loud wars" during his presidency.
“He is telling the truth in the sense that we were in a calmer period of history and now we see what can happen, in particular because of the weakness shown by [US President] Joe Biden in withdrawing troops from Afghanistan and the inability to even try to deter Russia from invading Ukraine,” Bolton noted.
The former US national security adviser also added that Europe should take Trump's threats that the US may withdraw from NATO seriously because he does not trust the North Atlantic Alliance.
We previously reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team are successfully adapting to the changed politics in Washington, in particular, by having contact with people whom Donald Trump will appoint to a number of positions in his administration.
“Kellogg is someone Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his entourage can work with,” Politico writes.
In addition, John Bolton also stated that Biden has not been able to develop a winning strategy in three years of full-scale war, but Trump, in turn, will try to find the best solution to the situation.
