The Cabinet of Ministers wants to "modernize" Ukrainian medicine

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the ambitious Strategy for the development of the health care system until 2030. This document, as emphasized by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, will become a road map for reforms in the medical field, aimed at ensuring the availability, efficiency and modernity of Ukrainian medicine.

Among the main tasks is the expansion of access to medical services for all citizens, including war veterans, and the integration of specialized medical institutions into multidisciplinary hospitals. Particular attention will be paid to the restoration of important medical facilities, such as "Okhmatdit", and the creation of more than 300 rehabilitation spaces that will help patients recover from injuries and illnesses. The plan also provides for the development of a system of shelters in hospitals, which is extremely relevant in the context of security challenges.

To improve the quality of medical management, the government will work to strengthen key structures such as the Ministry of Health, the National Health Service and the Center for Public Health. One of the priorities will be adaptation to EU standards, including improvement of financing and intersectoral coordination.

Human capital plays a key role in the reform. The strategy provides for the improvement of medical education through the creation of multidisciplinary hospitals at universities and the integration of educational and scientific work. Innovations will also become an integral part of the system: active implementation of telemedicine, artificial intelligence technologies, development of transplantology and bioengineering is planned. The government aims to fully digitize the management of medicine, replacing paper documents with electronic systems.

In order to implement these tasks, it will be important to involve the private sector. Private clinics will be able to participate in state programs of medical guarantees, which will help to attract additional investments in the field of health care.

For the period until 2025, the government has defined specific steps: the inclusion of departmental medical facilities in state programs, the implementation of regional investment projects and the expansion of the "Affordable Medicines" program. In addition, it is planned to expand medical services for war veterans, who will have access to high-quality medical care.

The approved strategy is not only a framework document, but also a concrete action plan with clear indicators of progress. Its implementation will be a powerful step in the development of medicine, bringing Ukraine closer to EU standards and providing citizens with modern, affordable and high-quality medical care.
