Romania Presidential Candidate requires compensation from Ukraine for Patriot transferred

George Simion, the winner of the first round of the presidential election in Romania, made a loud statement on Ukraine's further support. The politician has promised that in the event of a victory, he would stop any financial assistance to other countries and will require Ukraine to compensate for the military assistance already provided, in particular for the Patriot Air Defense System.

About it reports the Romanian edition of Digi24 .

"Romania will no longer give any cent in the other country, but will focus on its own population," Simion said, noting that Ukraine needs Romania, not the other way around.

The politician criticized the decision of the current President of Claus Johannis to convey the Armed Forces system of Patriot, calling it "a betrayal of the interests of the Romanian nation." According to him, compensation can be made in the form of participation in the post -war restoration of Ukraine, deliveries of grain or other mechanisms.

Simion also stressed that Romania rests on NATO as a main guarantor of its safety. He promised not to block the overall foreign policy of the European Union, but excluded further financial assistance to any countries.

In his previous statements, the politician repeatedly advocated "alternative peace initiatives", in particular for the proposals of the Donald Trump administration to end the war in Ukraine. He also criticized the supply of weapons to both parties to the conflict, calling it unprofitable for EU countries, including Romania, Germany, France and Poland.
