In Kyiv, law enforcement officers have completed a pre-trial investigation into the sale of counterfeit currency and have sent an indictment to court. The defendants in the case are two 23-year-old men — a student at a Kyiv university and a former police officer.
According to the investigation, the young men organized a scheme to sell counterfeit dollars. They sold the counterfeit currency for half of its face value. In particular, for 1,000 counterfeit dollars, the buyer had to pay 500 real ones.
Law enforcement officers established that the suspects sold 2,000 counterfeit dollars to a Kyiv resident. After recording the fact of the sale, they were exposed and criminal proceedings were opened under the article that provides for liability for illegal storage, transportation, and sale of counterfeit foreign currency.
The indictment has now been submitted to the court. If found guilty, the men face a sentence of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with confiscation of property.
