In the heart of Kyiv, excavations are underway at the foundations of the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, where archaeologists and volunteers found an unexpected "artifact" — a human footprint on freshly built bricks.
The State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Ancient Kyiv" reports that soon these ancient fragments will be presented to visitors in a transparent pavilion, which will allow you to get acquainted with the authentic walls of the gate church, built over eight centuries ago.
Clearing the foundations required considerable effort: volunteers and museum workers had to carry out about 50–60 bags of sand and lime, loading them into a dump truck. The work was carried out using a truck provided by the Shevchenkivskyi District Public Works Department.
After the work is completed, the floor will be covered with hygroscopic textiles and gravel, the walls will be painted, and the pavilion will be equipped with information banners and stands.
The footprint on the brick became a living testament to the medieval life of Kyivans, reminding us of the joy, fun, and unpredictable actions of the city's residents over 800 years ago.
