The death toll in Kiev after a massive Russian attack increased to 22 people on June 17. Rescuers continue to disassemble the rubble of destroyed buildings, in particular in the Solomenskiy district, where new bodies are detected.
As reported in the State Emergency Service, search work did not stop during the night. From under the rubble of a partially destroyed nine-storey building, the bodies of five more dead were unblocked.
As of the morning of June 18, rescuers confirmed that the location of 17 dead was removed at this location. The work is ongoing.
In the morning, Klitschko reported that the total number of casualties throughout Kiev was 22 people.
"22 killed after the enemy attack on the capital on the night of June 17. In the house in the Solomian district, rescuers continue to disassemble the blockages," the mayor wrote on Telegram.
Attack on Kyiv on June 17 - what happened
The night of June 17 has become one of the most tragic for the capital since the beginning of 2024. Russia has used more than 30 rockets and about 440 drones, hitting residential quarters and critical infrastructure.
The most affected was the Solomenskyi district, where several high -rise buildings, private homes and kindergarten were destroyed. Damage to debris and explosions caused large -scale fires.
According to official information, 134 people were injured, several dozen remain in hospitals.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the missile attack "demonstrative terror" and called on international partners to provide more air defense systems.
The day of mourning has been announced in Kiev, flags are released in the capital and entertainment was canceled.
