On August 26, 2024, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court will consider the complaint of Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky against the decision of the detective of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) to stop the pre-trial investigation in the case of the seizure of 9.2 billion hryvnias from Privatbank. The corresponding decision to open the proceedings was adopted by the court on August 20.
According to the court's decision, the meeting will be held in an open format, which allows the public to observe the progress of the complaint. The meeting will be attended not only by representatives of Igor Kolomoiskyi, but also by NABU detectives who investigated this case.
NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) previously accused Kolomoisky of organizing a scheme that involved the illegal acquisition of Privatbank's funds through forgery of documents and fictitious transactions. According to the investigation, the oligarch, together with other suspects, actually did not deposit 5.8 billion hryvnias into the bank's coffers, and also took possession of more than 5.3 billion hryvnias, which were later legalized through various financial transactions.
Detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security have completed the pre-trial investigation of Kolomoisky himself, but the investigation of other suspects in this case continues.
This is not the first time that Kolomoisky is under investigation. The Shevchenko District Court of Kyiv recently extended the preventive measure in the form of detention until September 2, 2024, with the possibility of bail in the amount of 1.9 billion hryvnias. As part of another criminal proceeding, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv ordered a preventive measure for Kolomoisky on suspicion of organizing the contract killing of the director of the Ukrainian-American consulting company "Fargo", Serhiy Karpenko. In this case, Kolomoiskyi is being held without bail until July 7.
Kolomoisky's case also attracted the attention of international organizations. Experts of the IAC ISHR monitoring mission stated that three articles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) had been violated during the proceedings against the oligarch.
