The Hungarian counterintelligence detained a citizen of Ukraine in Budapest on suspicion of espionage. This was reported by journalist Vitaliy Glagola with reference to local media.
The incident occurred in the center of the Hungarian capital. According to eyewitnesses, the special services stopped a white car, pulled out of him a man and forcefully removed in an unknown direction. The former Ukrainian diplomat, who had been in Hungary without diplomatic status, was the detainee.
According to local media, the Hungarian counterintelligence regarded it as a so -called "illegal agent" - that is, a spy without official cover. Immediately after the detention of the man was deported from the country. He is now in Kiev.
This incident broke out against another spy scandal that exploded the day before. The Security Service of Ukraine reported the detention of two former military Armed Forces, which are suspected of cooperation with Hungarian intelligence. In response, Hungary declared Non Grate of two Ukrainian diplomats.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted promptly with a mirror step - two representatives of the Hungarian diploma are also sent from the country.
All this happens on the background of the already intense Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, which for a long time is complicated by disputes over the rights of national minorities, the transit of weapons and the position of Budapest in the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
