The former head of the response sector of the patrol police of the Kremenets district department, Anatoliy Yurik, avoided imprisonment for a corruption crime related to fraud. The verdict of the Shumsky district court of the Ternopil region under Part 2 of Article 15, Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code provides for a sentence of imprisonment for 3.5 years, however, the court established a probationary period of two years.
According to the investigation, Yurik demanded $10,000 from his acquaintance for assistance in illegally traveling abroad. The victim turned to law enforcement in February 2024 with a request to help him find official employment, since he could not find a job due to the war. Yurik offered illegal travel and assured that he would prepare documents and enter data into the Shlyakh information system.
In reality, the police officer did not have such opportunities and planned to take possession of the money by deception. During the meeting on February 21, 2024, he offered to transfer the amount in two installments - $5,000 each. He received the first installment and later used it for his own needs.
In court, Yurik pleaded guilty and said he regretted what he had done. He is serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which was an argument for the court to apply a probationary period. For two years, the accused is required to regularly appear for registration with the probation agency and report any changes in his place of residence, work or study. The commander of the military unit will monitor the execution of the sentence.
