Against the background of the difficult geopolitical situation, Andriy Yermak, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, held a meeting with Michael Waltz and Keith Kellogg, who, according to a Reuters , may join Donald Trump's team in the event of his victory in the presidential elections in 2024. However, representatives of Trump's team did not show much enthusiasm for the key topic of discussion - the prospects of Ukraine's membership in NATO.
The Wall Street Journal writes about this based on the results of communication between the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and representatives of the republican.
In addition to future Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Vice President JD Vance came to the meeting with Yermak.
According to the publication, Kellogg supported the current arms shipments to the Biden administration, saying it would help Trump in future negotiations. At the same time, the topic of Ukraine's accession to the Alliance did not interest Trumpists.
According to the WSJ, Ukraine soon "plans to declare its readiness for peace." Yermak's goal in the US, the newspaper writes with reference to sources, is to present Ukraine as a "constructive partner in achieving peace, not an obstacle to it." And also to establish relations with the assistants of the elected president.
At the same time, the publication reminds that Trump's aides are discussing plans according to which Russia will retain approximately 20% of the territory of Ukraine at the end of the war. Whether this was discussed at the meeting with Yermak is not specified.
WSJ's Ukrainian interlocutors also say that Kyiv's main goal in the negotiations is to obtain real security guarantees to prevent the recurrence of war.
