The mechanism of recruiting into the army, although it seems effective at first glance, is often criticized due to the difficulties in providing military units with the necessary specialists. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announces the introduction of a new recruiting system, which provides for a more transparent and coordinated process.
Service candidates have the opportunity to choose a unit and position according to their skills and interests. Under this program, they are provided with consulting support from recruiters working in administrative service centers, as well as on job search websites and military units.
After selecting a position, candidates undergo an interview, physical training, and psychological testing. Upon successful completion of these stages, they are issued a letter of recommendation, on the basis of which they apply to the military department for documentation and a medical examination.
Those with military experience within the past 10 years can be admitted to military units more quickly with letters of recommendation. It is also stipulated that individuals without military experience undergo training at special training centers before being assigned to a military unit.
However, not all experts share the optimism about the effectiveness of this scheme. Some believe that mobilization remains the main method of providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a full-scale war. In addition, there are problems of corruption and bureaucracy that complicate the recruitment process.
Commanders of large units, in particular, are often forced to bribe recruiters to get the best personnel. There is also a lack of consideration for the civilian experience of those called up for service, which can lead to unproductive use of their skills in military units.
Despite attempts to improve the recruitment system, some issues remain unresolved, which could undermine its effectiveness in the long term.
"The introduction of the recruiting system solves some of the problems of those who wanted to serve in a certain unit. However, no one can guarantee that the commander will not change the work duties of a subordinate. In this case, it is impossible to refuse new tasks, and you will have to undergo retraining," Simutin concluded.
