The bill, which provides for the cancellation of special pensions for the prosecutor's office, has passed the first reading in the Verkhovna Rada, but did not receive the approval of the profile committee on social policy and protection of veterans' rights. This was reported by the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy Danilo Getmantsev.
According to him, the initiative faced the powerful resistance, despite support from the committee leadership.
Resistance from the inside
"Resistance from the prosecutorial community and some deputies who support them have proved to be frantic," Getmantsev said. He stressed that the pressure on the part of the stakeholders stopped making a positive decision, although the authors' arguments are based on the idea of social justice and economic expediency.
The question of justice and resources
According to Hetmantsev, the abolition of specialics is not only a step towards equality in the pension system, but also the real opportunity to redistribute funds for the benefit of those who receive the least.
"It is not just about changes in the legislation, but about the release of resources to increase minimal pensions, which is especially relevant in wartime and economic instability," he said.
The following steps
According to Hetmantsev, the bill can be finalized in the next week during the next meeting of the committee. If a compromise is found, the document can be brought to the second reading.
Now the fate of the bill remains uncertain, but the initiators are determined. "This is a question of principle," Getmantsev added.
