The Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services supported the decision to purchase equipment for the completion of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant. Such a decision was made at a meeting of the committee on Thursday.
In particular, it was recommended that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopt in the second reading and as a whole the draft law "On permission to purchase equipment necessary for the construction of power units of the Khmelnytsky NPP", with all the necessary technical and legal amendments and a new name. 16 People's Deputies voted in support of this decision.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Galushchenko, speaking at the meeting, emphasized that the development of atomic energy in the world is gathering pace, and therefore it is important for Ukraine to ensure the supply of hulls for the completion of the Khmelnytsky NPP as soon as possible.
Earlier, People's Deputy Viktor Bondar stated that the completion of two power units of the Khmelnytsky NPP will help create thousands of highly qualified jobs. It will also become a powerful stimulus for the economic and social development of the region.
The decision to complete the Khmelnytsky NPP is an important step for strengthening Ukraine's energy security and gives hope for an increase in nuclear energy production in the country in conditions of constant growth in the need for energy resources.
