Despite the contradictory statements and hot debates between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, the United States does not plan to refuse to support Ukraine or look for a new leader for the country. According to one of the advisers of the Trump administration, the United States, despite the intense situation, remains committed to the end of the war and continue to assist Ukraine.
In particular, the US Presidential Advisor stressed that although the United States may increase the pressure on Kiev, it is not about changing the President of Ukraine. According to this adviser, Trump and his administration are still considered important to reach a peace agreement and end the war with Russia, but not at the expense of political changes in Ukraine.
"We will continue to support Ukraine, however, there may be consequences in the form of a help provided, but this will not prevent future negotiations," Victoria Cousa, Vice president of Heritage Foundation, said.
In general, although some Trump allies have publicly expressed the possible resignation of Zelensky or a change in his political course, the US President himself does not call into question his role as a country leader. According to officials, there are currently no discussions on the potential change of the Ukrainian president.
The meeting between Zelensky and Trump, which took place on February 28 in the White House, suddenly grew into a sharp dispute. One of the key points was Zelensky's statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot be trusted because of constant violations of the agreement. This statement caused Trump's anger, which also made claims to Zelensky's behavior, which, he said, looked "disrespectful" during the meeting.
Despite the White House incident, the United States remains committed to Ukraine's support in its fight against Russia. Trump and his administration will continue to insist on peace, even if it is accompanied by some pressure on the Ukrainian leadership. However, as stated in the Trump administration, the change of the leader of Ukraine is not part of the US strategy.
