The humanitarian coordinator of the UN in Ukraine, Denise Brown, strongly condemned Russia's insidious missile strikes, which in the last few hours have led to destruction, death and suffering of the population in densely populated areas of Ukraine. In her statement, she highlighted the serious consequences such as damage to houses, schools, hospitals, shopping malls, metro stations and power facilities, which caused numerous civilian casualties.
Brown emphasized that families and emergency services are now actively engaged in rescue operations, trying to free people from the rubble. She also expressed her condolences to the people of Ukraine, who are once again facing the tragic reality and injustice.
The UN coordinator once again noted that indiscriminate or deliberately targeted strikes against the civilian population and civilian objects are strictly prohibited. She called for an end to violence and a solution to the conflict through diplomacy and peace talks.
The recent large-scale Russian missile attack on Ukraine, which took place on December 29, targeted Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Konotop, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia. Russia used 18 Tu-95 strategic bombers and a variety of missiles, including attack drones. The priority object of the attack was the social and critical infrastructure, as reported by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhnyi, said that the Air Force is cooperating with defense units and has already destroyed 27 enemy Shahed-136/131 attack drones and 87 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles.
