Corruption and Justice: Review of resonant cases and their consequences

The focus of Ukrainian society again is the question of responsibility for corruption at the highest level. Despite resonant detentions, searches and suspicions, many top officials continue to be freedom, avoiding real punishment.

Public distrust of justice is increasing, and some loud cases become more element of a public performance than a real purification process.

Andriy Kleimenov, former Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, whom NABU detectives are suspected of involvement in the scheme for more than 900 million hryvnias, today is a precautionary measure in the form of collateral. It is a case that has a connection with the implementation of the projects of "large construction" and the development of public funds. Instead of detention - an electronic bracelet and UAH 20 million.

Oleg Tatarov, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, remains in the post, despite NABU resonant case on possible interference with the investigation and episodes with the developer of Ukrbud. The role of Tatarov in the inhibition of anti -corruption proceedings has become the subject of constant criticism by human rights activists and experts. However, no decisions have been made from office.

Viktor Kichun, a judge who is investigating the case of land abuse, continues to be held justice. Despite numerous complaints, disciplinary responsibility has not come. The High Council of Justice has been considering the submission for several years, without decisive steps.

Another resonant example is Alexander Tupitsky, the former chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. After the suspicion, he left the territory of Ukraine. Today it is active in the media, protecting its own position, while the case of excess of authority and corruption has remained virtually frozen.

These cases are no exceptions, but rather symptoms of a systemic problem. Anti -corruption structures work in pressure, political arrangements and institutional weakness. The judiciary, in turn, often does not demonstrate the effectiveness in the consideration of high -profile cases.

In the face of war, when the country needs maximum mobilization and financial resources, every million lost through corruption is not only economic but also moral importance. The impunity of high -ranking officials undermines confidence in the state, demotivates society and signals: the system still protects stronger rather than justice.

The main question remains open: when will suspicions turn into sentences?
