In the first six months of 2025, 1367 people were killed in Ukraine as a result of road accidents, including 69 children. Another 13,895 people were injured. Such data was published by the Association Ukravtoprom with reference to the patrol police.
In January -June, 11 194 accidents with the victims were recorded - almost as much as in the same period last year. Despite the war, the threats of Russian blows and the change of mobility, the situation on the roads remains critical.
The main cause of fatal accidents is the excess speed - 751 dead. In second place - departure on the oncoming lane (not related to overtakes), which led to 95 deaths. The third reason is pedestrians that cross the road in the places not installed for this purpose: 67 deaths.
These three factors have become fatal for more than 900 people in just half a year.
Over time, the most accidents occur in the evening - from 16:00 to 19:00. This is a time when many drivers return from work, the movement is intense and the fatigue is accumulated.
The most dangerous day of the week is Friday. It is on this day that the accident peak is recorded, which may be related to the completion of the working week, hurry and reduction of the attention of drivers.
Statistics are an alarm. Despite the war, a partial change in traffic and restrictions on movement, the number of accidents with victims is not reduced. This indicates a deep crisis in the field of road safety, which requires systemic changes - from infrastructure to real control over speed and road behavior.
