Ukraine announced its intention to invite Russia to the upcoming summit with the aim of ending the war that has been going on in the east of the country for many years. The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, emphasizing the importance of political will on both sides to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
However, judging by everything, this can happen after Ukraine improves its position on the front line.
"The idea is that the next summit will be the end of the war. And, of course, we need the other side at the negotiating table. It is obvious that both sides are needed to end the war, our job is to ensure that Ukraine is in the strongest positions at this time," the minister said.
"Of course, we perfectly understand that the moment will come when it will be necessary to talk with Russia," he added.
At the same time, Kuleba admitted that the positions of the West and the "global South" differ.
"Yesterday there were voices from the Global South about the difficult compromises that need to be made. This is not the language we hear from our Western partners," said the Foreign Minister.
