On Channel 24, military expert and ATO veteran Yevhen Dykyi commented on the expected Russian offensive in the Kursk region, stressing that it is the result of significant efforts on the part of the Russian army and has important strategic consequences.
Attack delay and its indicators
Dyky noted that Russia's offensive in the Kursk region was not a surprise, but on the contrary, it was expected. "We even waited for him. Forecasts were that they will gather forces in two weeks, not six," the expert said. He emphasized that it took Russia longer than before to assemble the 40-strong group, which indicates the exhaustion of its resources. It also indicates that the Russian army, although still large, is already severely depleted by the current fighting.
Displacement as a matter of survival
Yevhen Dykiy emphasized that for Putin's regime, the expulsion of Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region is a matter of survival. "If we establish ourselves there for a long time and expand the territory, it will break the propaganda installations that tell the Russians about the border incident," the expert explained. He noted that the confirmation of Russia's weakness in such an important operation would be a serious blow to the Putin regime.
Tactical aspects and strategic plans
Dykiy spoke about the differences in the nature of the battles in the Kursk region, comparing them to trench warfare in the east of Ukraine. "There, it is more like the initial phase of the war, when we fought in the north of Ukraine. The area is wooded and riverine, and the defenders are betting on mobile actions and maneuverability," the expert noted. This highlights a new approach to warfare that may be less predictable.
The role of the 106th Airborne Division
Dykiy paid special attention to the participation of the 106th Airborne Division in Russia's offensive operation. "This is one of the most battle-hardened units. They opposed us in the Kherson region and were restored for the offensive in the Kursk region," he explained. This division, as Dyky noted, is Russia's main bet in this operation, which adds to its strategic importance.
