Two officials of municipal enterprises in the Dnipro district were exposed in Kyiv, who are suspected of systematically demanding bribes for the performance of work that was supposed to be financed from the community budget. The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office informed the officials about the suspicion, and the actions of both were qualified under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - receiving an unlawful benefit by an official.
As it turned out, the chief engineer of the municipal enterprise "Road Operation Department of the Dnipro District" demanded 340 thousand hryvnias from an entrepreneur who officially concluded a contract with the municipal enterprise to fill the road to his establishment in the garden society with crushed stone. Despite the existence of the contract, the official actually "set a price" for accelerating the work.
Meanwhile, the deputy head of the district Department of Public Services (UZN) demanded another 52 thousand hryvnias “in his pocket” for landscaping the territory of a private house. Although the work cost only 10 thousand under the contract and was carried out by the resources of the utility company, the official insisted on additional payment for himself personally.
On May 25, both perpetrators were detained “red-handed” while receiving bribes. During the searches, cash and documents confirming illegal activities were seized from the suspects. The detention was carried out in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The investigation is ongoing. If the suspects are found guilty by the court, they face up to 10 years in prison, as well as a ban on holding public office for up to three years with confiscation of property.
