The Kyiv City Military Administration (KMMA) is considering the possibility of resuming public transport in the capital during airstrikes. This was announced by the head of the KMMA, Timur Tkachenko, in response to the call of public organizations, in particular the NGO "Passengers of Kyiv".
The capital is the only city in Ukraine where public transport is currently suspended during the alarm, and this causes a number of problems. Activists note that this decision results in lost funds for both the city budget and carriers, and passengers are forced to look for alternative routes, which further creates traffic jams.
Tkachenko said that the issue is currently being studied. “Next week, the relevant departments will report, and I will publicly announce further steps,” he noted.
Recall that the decision to stop public transport in Kyiv was made two and a half years ago based on the recommendations of the State Emergency Service, without clear justification. Since then, the capital has remained the only city where this practice is in effect, and it causes some inconvenience to residents.
In the near future, Kyiv residents may learn about the final decision on the restoration of stable transport operations during the alarm period.
