Contaminated water continues to move towards Kyiv, but the stain is gradually slowing down and remains under control. Volodymyr Bondarenko, deputy mayor - secretary of the Kyiv City Council, announced this on the air of the "Espresso" TV channel.
Bondarenko noted that, according to the State Inspectorate and the State Water Resources Agency, the stain does not cover the entire water area of the Desna River, but is concentrated in its central part. It gradually settles to the bottom, which gives hope for minimizing risks for the capital.
"As of this morning, the situation remains under control. The State Water Agency, eco-inspection and city services constantly monitor the state of water and carry out continuous analysis of samples," said Bondarenko.
He also assured that if the situation worsens, "Kyivvodokanal" will use additional reagents that will help ensure safe water quality for Kyiv residents. A pessimistic scenario under which the use of water intakes on the Desna may be stopped is being considered, but so far there are no grounds for such a development.
We will remind that the Desna River is the main source of water supply for Kyiv, providing 70% of drinking water for the capital's residents. In case of water quality deterioration, the capital is ready to switch to alternative sources of water supply.
As of September 10, drinking water samples near Kyiv did not reveal an excess of sanitary-chemical and bacteriological indicators.
