Explosions began in Kyiv immediately after the announcement of an air alert in the city. The Armed Forces reported that they had destroyed two ballistic missiles flying from the occupied Crimea.
Eyewitnesses reported at least four explosions, with huge plumes of smoke visible over the city. It is known about the destruction of the premises of the Academy of Arts and at least ten injured. There may be a person under the rubble.
"Explosions in the capital. Urgently take shelter!" - originally wrote the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko.
Correspondents of the Ukrainian Air Force heard explosions just a second or two after the siren.
Such a strike for Kyiv without an alarm announcement at least a minute before the strike happened, perhaps not for the first time. Previously, when struck by "daggers" or other ballistic missiles, at least half a minute or a minute passed from the moment of alarm to the impact.
Telegram channels, which specialize in alarms, assume that the strike could have been carried out from the coastal missile complex "Bastion" by "Onyx" missiles from Crimea." There are also assumptions about the Zircon missiles, which were used to hit Kyiv earlier during combined strikes. It is ballistic and has already been launched over Kyiv from Crimea.
The Air Force does not yet know what kind of ballistic missiles these were. "The type is being established," their message reads.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that debris fell on a three-story non-residential building in the Pechersk district.
Later it turned out that the destroyed building is part of the M. Boychuk Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design.
"The central part of the building was destroyed. In particular, the sports hall, congress hall and exhibition center were completely destroyed. The premises of the departments and the auditorium of the institution were also significantly damaged," the Ministry of Culture said in a statement.
"Near the destroyed premises of the state educational institution, there is a dormitory where there were many people. Fortunately, there is no destruction and no one was injured," Klitschko wrote.
Acting the Minister of Culture Rostislav Karandeev writes that due to the speed of the impact, students and teachers did not have time to go down to the shelter, but they were lucky that "the debris hit the neighboring premises."
The mayor reported ten victims in Pechersk. One woman and a 16-year-old girl were hospitalized.
Three women, two of whom are pregnant, have an "acute reaction to stress," reported Serhiy Popko, head of the KMVA.
The head of the laboratory is among the victims who were taken to the hospital, Karandeev said. He did not specify her condition.
There may be a person under the rubble, the State Emergency Service says.
Klitschko says that emergency services were also called to the Solomyansky district, where, according to the KMDA, debris damaged a multi-story building.
Debris was also found in the forest belt of the Holosiiv district of Kyiv. There was no information about the victims and destruction.
Mykola Kalashnyk, the head of the Darnytskyi district administration, reported that in the Darnytskyi district, a private house in the Osokorka microdistrict was damaged by debris after a rocket attack - without further catching fire.
The last time Kyiv was hit by a massive rocket attack was last night, when all the rockets were shot down and there was no significant damage.
