Kyiv: Air quality has normalized after the smog period, the Ministry of Environment reports

As of September 21, 2024, air quality in Kyiv has returned to normal after a recent smog period. The smog was caused by a series of fires that experts say are common in the spring and fall seasons due to droughts and careless fire management.

As of the morning of September 21, air quality in Kyiv and its surroundings has normalized. According to the monitoring posts of local authorities and public organizations, an average level of air pollution is currently observed

- the Ministry of Environment reported in the morning.

As indicated, the analysis showed that similar situations occur almost every year in the spring and autumn, when the number of fires increases due to droughts and careless fire management. This leads to smog, which is further facilitated by seasonal temperature fluctuations and light winds.

"Preliminary recommendations on limiting the time spent outside are not mandatory, but we advise you to pay attention to your well-being," the Ministry of the Environment noted.
