Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev expressed the opinion that residents of European countries “do not really want” to see Russians and recommended that his compatriots choose African countries for their vacation.
Speaking at a forum of the United Russia party, Medvedev urged Russians to choose Africa for their vacation because, he said, “they are very welcoming there.” He underscored his advice by citing examples from his own experience traveling to African countries.
This advice has become relevant in the context of Russia's relations with European countries, as well as in light of statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin about the role of Africa as a new center of power. According to Putin, countries must take into account the influence of Africa, which can affect the geopolitical situation.
