The prosecutor's office reported suspicions to the acting director of one of the specialized hospitals in Shostka district, Sumy region. According to the investigation, the doctor demanded a bribe from a patient who sought treatment for drug addiction, which could have exempted him from criminal liability.
A man from whom law enforcement officers had previously seized drugs took advantage of the legal opportunity to undergo treatment at a medical facility. However, instead of help, he encountered corrupt demands. A medical facility official demanded 1,000 US dollars for a three-day stay in the hospital. He demanded this money for the execution of documentation, in particular, an extract from the medical record confirming the course of treatment.
Law enforcement officers detained a doctor while accepting a bribe. The detention was carried out in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigative actions are currently ongoing. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved. He is charged with extortion and receiving illegal benefits (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), which provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
