Treatment of Ukrainian infertility will receive funding from the state

For the first time, the Ministry of Health took over the financing of infertility treatment under the state guarantee program, as reported on the official website of the department.

According to statistics, the number of infertile couples in Ukraine is constantly increasing, which requires the effective participation of the state. In particular, access to services for the restoration of reproductive health becomes a decisive factor for obtaining the opportunity to become parents. In most countries, these services remain underfunded and inaccessible due to their cost and social stigma. Infertility treatment is often privately funded, resulting in significant financial costs for expectant parents.

For the first time, the Ministry of Health implements the financing of assisted reproductive technologies within the framework of the program of state guarantees of medical care for the population. The program of medical guarantees for 2024 includes a new package of services "Treatment of infertility using assisted reproductive technologies (in vitro fertilization)".

First Deputy Minister of Health Serhiy Dubrov noted: "Modern life has a significant impact on the reproductive functions of Ukrainians. We are now providing free infertility treatment to ensure the right to parenthood, particularly for veterans and their spouses who may be adversely affected by military action on their reproductive function.”

The rate for the new area of infertility treatment for hospitals will be 60,324 hryvnias for the provided service, and the estimated number of medical services will be 30,400 cycles. It is expected that about 10,000 newborn citizens of Ukraine will be born after artificial insemination.

Referral of women for the first course of infertility treatment by methods of assisted reproductive technologies will be carried out from the budget exclusively for medical reasons. Medical institutions wishing to join the medical guarantee program must conclude a contract with the National Health Service by January 2024 in full form.
