Lviv court sentences deserter with explosives and drugs to 6.5 years

The Zaliznychny District Court of Lviv sentenced Andriy F., who during his contract service left the military unit without permission, stored explosive devices, and planted drug caches in the city. The man was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison with confiscation of all his property.

As stated in the verdict published in the court registry in February 2026, the native of Poltava voluntarily left the military unit in January 2025 and was out of service until his arrest in October 2025. Law enforcement officers found explosive devices, as well as narcotics and psychotropic substances in his apartment.

The deserter was detained after he left several "bookmarks" with cannabis in Lviv's 5th Park. He was charged with desertion, possession of explosive devices, and possession for the purpose of selling narcotics. The aggravating circumstance of the sentence is a recidivism - in 2024 he was paroled to serve in the military under a contract.

Judge Serhiy Kolodyazhny examined the case materials and the arguments of the parties. He found Andriy F. guilty and credited part of the unserved sentence under the previous sentence. The final sentence is 6.5 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The sentence can still be appealed.
