Lviv surgeons rescued a boy with a rare liver tumor

The four -year Yurko from Brodivshchyna received a chance for a healthy life thanks to the team of surgeons of St. Nicholas Lviv Children's Hospital. The boy accidentally found a large tumor in the liver during the planned ultrasound, which occupied almost two -thirds of the organ. The Novozhir did not give any symptoms, but could cause liver failure, which would require urgent transplantation.

The parents immediately went to the doctors after the Brody during the examination, the doctors suspected the pathology. In Lviv, the boy was taken over the supervision of surgeons, who confirmed the critical condition. The tumor was located in the central part of the liver, leaving only small areas of healthy tissue on both sides. According to the pediatric surgeon and medical director of the hospital Alexander Kalinchuk, the delay could lead to damage to blood vessels and catastrophic consequences.

The operation was performed urgently. It lasted six hours and demanded high accuracy and teamwork. The operating team included experienced surgeons Alexander Kalinchuk, Andriy Dvorakevich and Denis Konoplytsky. The tumor was completely removed with the central part of the liver, after which the healthy parts of the organ were combined.

A special role was played by the Cell Saver, which purified blood, lost during surgery, and returned it back to the body, reducing the need for transfusions. Despite successful intervention, Yurko's body was exhausted - the baby was on the apparatus of artificial lung ventilation for 12 days.

The recovery period was long and complex, but the coordinated work of a team of doctors gave results. Resuscitators, surgeons and rehabilitologists have gradually returned the boy to life.

Today, Yurko is already walking independently, active and smiling. Doctors are convinced that he has a full and happy life without restrictions.
