The unusual find was made by Lviv customs officers on April 25 at Lviv-Poshtov. In the cargo that was heading from Kiev to Polish Wroclaw, customs officers found 2580 live ants. Each of the insects was in a separate glass flask, and all the flasks were folded into a metal box, declared as a "remote control".
This was reported by Lviv customs on its Facebook page.
Insects were found during checking with Rapiscan X-ray. The inspection of the cargo showed anomalous objects inside the box, which was the basis for more detailed check.
When the customs officers opened the parcel, they saw hundreds of small glass flasks with ants inside. It turned out that the cargo was tried to cross the border hidden - without notifying customs control and using means that complicate the detection of contents.
Transportation of ants in international expressives is prohibited by current legislation. The violation provides liability under Articles 473 and 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. Upon the detected offense, the customs officers drawn up the corresponding protocol.
At the moment, all ants are in the warehouse under supervision. Their further fate will be determined by the court after the case. Expertise is also planned to install insects.
The motives of the senders are still unexplained.
By the way, cases of illegal transportation of ants have already occurred earlier. So, on April 16, Reuters reported an attempt by smuggling 5,000 tolls in Kenya. There, insects planned to sell exotic animals in Europe and Asia in the markets.
