Leafy greens, stuffing and onions: experts named products that can kill

Consumer Reports experts have analyzed food data that most often caused poisoning and outbreaks in 2017-2022. Based on the results of the study, they made a list of the 10 most dangerous products that are best not to buy or use with extreme caution.

In the first place - leafy greens, including Romain salad and packaged mixes. During this period, they caused the poisoning of 614 people, 11 of whom died. The main threat is E. Coli E. coli and licoric, which can get into the greens through contaminated water for irrigation or during processing at enterprises.

What experts advise:

  • choose whole salad heads rather than sliced ​​packaged options;

  • Remove external leaves where bacteria are most commonly accumulated.

In the three most dangerous:

  • cheese and meat cuts - because of the risk of listeriosis;

  • Stuffed beef is an E. coli source and salmonella, especially with insufficient heat treatment.

The rest of the dangerous products entered:

  • onion,

  • turkey,

  • chicken,

  • papaya,

  • peaches,

  • melon,

  • flour.

All of these products were in investigations of mass poisoning cases recorded by the US Centers (CDC).

Experts urge consumers to wash fruits, vegetables carefully, keep the storage temperature and do not eat raw meat and stuffing. People with weakened immunity, children and the elderly should be especially cautious.
