French President Emmanuel Macron said that Moscow has no right to decide whether peacekeeping forces will be deployed on the territory of Ukraine. In an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien, the French leader emphasized that this issue is solely within the competence of Ukraine and its international partners.
“Ukraine is a sovereign state, and if it asks for allied troops to be on its territory, it is not Russia’s business whether to accept them or not,” Macron said.
Separately, the French leader commented on the peace plan of Great Britain and France. Work on the document is practically complete. Later, it will be presented by the United States. As Macron noted, the goal is not to create “massive troops,” because the largest army in Europe is the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“It’s about deploying several thousand people from each country to key locations to conduct training programs and demonstrate our support in the long term,” he added.
Sending peacekeepers to Ukraine
A number of countries have announced their readiness to send their peacekeepers to Ukraine to maintain peace. In particular, Denmark is ready to take such a step.
In turn, the German defense concern Rheinmetall has promised support for a possible international peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. The concern's CEO Armin Papperger said that Rheinmetall is ready to offer its products to arm peacekeepers.
Russia has already spoken out about the inadmissibility of deploying foreign troops on the territory of Ukraine. They say that such a step would be regarded as direct intervention in the “conflict.”.
