The IAEA confirms the incident at the Yuzhno-Ukrainian NPP due to problems with the transformer

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed information about the emergency situation at the Yuzhno-Ukrainian nuclear power plant (NPP), which has become the subject of disputes between Ukrainian energy organizations. According to the IAEA report, a problem did occur at the station that affected the operation of one of its units.

"Last week, the IAEA team at the Yuzhno-Ukrainian NPP reported that its Unit No. 2 was temporarily shut down after electrical protections tripped due to a problem with a transformer in the 330 kV open switchgear located outside the NPP site.

As a result of the short circuit, the ceramic insulator was damaged, which caused an oil leak, which ignited due to an electric arc. After the electrical connection was restored, the reactor was restarted and began supplying electricity to the grid in about 17 hours, reaching full power a little more than 24 hours after the shutdown," the international organization said in a report.

We will remind you that after the refutation of Energoatom, the general director of the NPP was changed.
