Almost half of Ukrainian pensioners are below the poverty line

As of the beginning of July 2024, 43.4% of Ukrainian pensioners receive pensions of less than 4 thousand hryvnias.

Only 12.5% can boast of payments exceeding 10 thousand hryvnias. This information was made public by the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

General indicators

According to the Fund, there are 10.26 million pensioners in Ukraine, and the average pension is 5,816.6 hryvnias. The distribution of pension payments is as follows:

  • Less than UAH 3,000 - 26.1% of pensioners
  • 3001-4000 UAH – 17,3%
  • 4001-5000 UAH – 18,6%
  • 5001-10000 UAH – 25,5%
  • More than UAH 10,000 – 12,5%

These figures indicate a significant disparity in pay.

Regional differences

According to the Pension Fund, residents of the capital and several regions receive the largest pensions:

  • Kyiv - average pension 7,949.2 UAH
  • Rivne region - UAH 7,255
  • Donetsk region - UAH 7,137.78

The smallest pensions are recorded in the Ternopil region , where the average amount is only UAH 4,436.4.

At the beginning of July 2024, the situation with pensions in Ukraine remains alarming. The majority of pensioners receive benefits at the poverty line, and only a small number have the opportunity to live at a decent level. This emphasizes the need for reforms in the pension system and social policy to ensure a dignified life for elderly Ukrainian citizens.
