French President Emmanuel Macron intends to raise the issue of placing a peacekeeping mission on the territory of Ukraine during the summit of European Union leaders, which will take place on December 18-19.
RFE/RL reports this with reference to a source.
According to the interlocutor of Radio Svoboda, this discussion is inevitable, given the visit of the French president to Poland and the discussion in the media on the topic of peacekeepers. And also - in view of the future coming to power of Donald Trump in the USA and the need to prepare for a discussion with him about the situation regarding the war in Ukraine.
At the same time, according to officials in the EU, the topic of peacekeepers is still very "raw" and is at the level of an idea.
It will be recalled that the leaders of Poland and Croatia have already spoken out against sending their troops to Ukraine. And the German government called this issue "irrelevant".
There is also a version that the issue of the introduction of foreign troops into Ukraine (which the Russian Federation opposes) is being introduced by Macron and other representatives of the "war party" in the West in order to disrupt (or at least complicate) the negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine, which he intends to initiate Trump.
