Traveling with a pet outside Ukraine is not just an emotional challenge, but also a serious bureaucratic procedure. The Main Department of the State Service for the Protection of Food and Consumer Rights in Chernivtsi Region reminds that preparations for crossing the border with an animal should be started in advance - at least 4 months in advance.
The most time-consuming part is confirming the presence of rabies antibodies - this document is mandatory for importing an animal into the European Union.
What to do:
-
Microchipping and vaccination. First, your pet must be identified with a microchip and vaccinated against rabies. The data must be entered into an international veterinary passport.
-
Blood test. 30 days after vaccination, blood is taken from the animal to determine the titer of antibodies to rabies.
-
Waiting. After the blood draw, another 3 months must pass before departure - this is an EU requirement.
Therefore, the total minimum preparation period is 4 months. However, if revaccination is carried out on time every year, the test result remains valid and a new test is not required.
Immediately before travel (no later than 72 hours), you must obtain an F1 form and a veterinary health certificate. These are issued by state veterinarians and usually take a few hours.
Experts advise not to delay and take the first steps now - chipping, vaccinations, and testing. This will help you avoid future delays and plan trips with your four-legged friend without stress.
