Traveling with a pet: How long does it take to prepare for exit to the EU

Traveling with a pet outside Ukraine is not just an emotional challenge, but also a serious bureaucratic procedure. The Main Department of the State Consumer Service in Chernivtsi region reminds that the preparation for the crossing of the border with the animal should be started in advance - at least 4 months.

It takes the most time to confirm the presence of antibodies to rabies - this document is mandatory for importing animals into the European Union.

What should you do:

  1. Chipping and vaccination. First, the pet needs to be identified with a microchip and a rabies vaccination. The data must be entered in the international veterinary passport.

  2. Blood test. 30 days after vaccination, the animal is taken to determine the titer of antibodies to rabies.

  3. Expectation. After blood sampling, it must take another 3 months before departure - this is the EU requirement.

Therefore, the total minimum preparation period is 4 months. However, if it is timely revaccination every year, the result of the analysis remains valid and a new study is not required.

Immediately before the trip (not later than 72 hours), you need to get the form of F1 and a veterinary certificate of health. They are issued by state veterinarians and are usually issued in a few hours.

Experts advise not to delay and now take the first steps - chipping, vaccinations and analysis. This will avoid delays in the future and without stress to plan travel with a four -legged friend.
