The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) emphasized the importance of maintaining the city of Maryinka, despite the difficulties and damage it suffered as a result of hostilities. Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the Defense Forces of the Tavria region, said that the task of the military command is to settle the situation and preserve personnel.
"Today, we are clearly aware that if somewhere everything is destroyed or there is no possibility - our task, first of all, is to save personnel. And we are taking all measures to ensure that it is not at any cost," Tarnavskyi emphasized.
Maryinka, a small town near Donetsk, has been under active shelling and fighting for the second year. The Ukrainian military determines the importance of holding the city, despite the destruction and damage caused by the enemy.
General Tarnavskyi compared the situation in Marinka with other cities, in particular Avdiivka, where the occupying forces of the Russian Federation are bypassing the fighters in order to avoid fighting in the city.
"We observed this during the battles for Bakhmut," said the general, pointing to the strategic importance of holding Maryinka.
The servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine deny the statements of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Serhiy Shoigu regarding the occupation of Maryinka by Russia, indicating that this does not correspond to reality. Oleksandr Shtupun, the spokesman of the joint press center of the Defense Forces of the Tavria direction, said that the Ukrainian military is in the north of Maryinka, where active combat work is ongoing.
