Tensions have arisen in the Verkhovna Rada after mass summons of MPs for questioning by the NABU. This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who stated that the situation within the Servant of the People faction has already affected voting discipline and has effectively blocked the work of the parliament.
According to Zheleznyak, about 50 parliamentarians were summoned for questioning as witnesses in one case. He referred to the statement of MP Olga Vasilevska-Smaglyuk, who previously reported on large-scale summonses of faction representatives.
“ I heard that another 50 people were summoned for questioning as witnesses in one case ,” Zheleznyak quoted her as saying. He added that this information is true and has already caused an internal reaction.
Zheleznyak also recalled that earlier five MPs were suspected in the proceedings related to voting "within envelopes." According to him, this increased nervousness among parliamentarians.
" A number of people's deputies are voicing their position that until NABU and SAPO stop targeting deputies, we do not want to vote ," he said.
According to Zheleznyak, some deputies even allow the possibility of resigning their mandates if the investigative actions continue. He quoted the position of some colleagues: " If you want, take our mandate away, no questions asked. We are not holding back here ."
As of now, no official statements from NABU or SAPO regarding the mass calls have been made public. At the same time, the political consequences are already tangible - some votes in the Verkhovna Rada are being held with difficulties due to an insufficient number of votes.
Thus, anti-corruption investigations may have a direct impact on parliamentary work if the internal conflict in the largest faction is not resolved.
