On the night of May 26, Russia struck Ukraine, launching a massive attack with Tu-95MS bombers that fired cruise missiles. In addition, there were attacks with Shahed and Kinzhal during the night. During the night, the “Shaheeds” attacked and scouted air defense systems in central and western regions of Ukraine. At around 3:30 a.m., the first cruise missiles hit Ukrainian territory in the Chernihiv region and flew westward through Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions. The Air Force warned of a possible strike near Zhytomyr and of missiles flying in the direction of Starokostyantyniv.
This city is home to a Ukrainian aviation base, from where, according to the Air Force, attacks are carried out using Western aircraft missiles against Russian military facilities in the occupied territories.
Some of the missiles reached the Lviv region and were heading towards Lviv, regional head Maksym Kozytskyi said. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi clarified that two missiles were recorded in the Lviv region, but they later disappeared from radar.
The Air Force also reported the movement of missiles towards Ivano-Frankivsk. In this region, Russian troops had previously attacked the Burshtyn thermal power plant, which had already been destroyed.
Later, the Air Force reported that the missiles changed course and hit Starokonstantyniv. According to the military, a Kinzhal aeroballistic missile was launched over this city. However, according to the military, the Kinzhal flew near Starokonstantyniv and headed towards Ivano-Frankivsk.
At around 4:30 a.m., the head of Vinnytsia Region, Serhiy Borzov, reported the shelling of a residential building in the region, there are wounded, and evacuation is underway.
The air alert was declared over at 5:20 a.m. The last such strike by Russia on Ukraine was on May 8. Also, as earlier this spring, Russian forces are attacking energy networks.
In particular, Russia is systematically shelling frontline cities, including Kharkiv and Kherson, in an attempt to systematically destroy them.
