In Volyn, law enforcement officers have uncovered a corruption scheme in one of the state bodies. According to the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine, the leadership of the Regional Office of Water Resources, together with their subordinates, organized a mechanism for embezzling budget funds through fictitious bonuses.
The scheme worked like this: employees were unjustifiably paid inflated bonuses, but they were forced to give part of this money to management. According to the investigation, the amount of "kickbacks" reached 300 thousand hryvnias.
On July 30, investigators detained the organizer of the scheme — the head of the institution — in his office while receiving 218,000 hryvnias. The money, according to law enforcement officers, was brought in a candy box. Two more employees of the institution were also detained in a procedural manner.
During the searches, cash in national and foreign currencies totaling over 3.8 million hryvnias was seized. All three suspects were charged with suspicion.
