In the Transcarpathian region, a 38-year-old resident of Uzhgorod region was sentenced to three years of restraint of liberty, which led to the death of her three-month-old son. About it reports the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The verdict was issued by the Veliko Berezny District Court. The woman is found guilty of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - malicious failure to fulfill the responsibilities of care for the child without valid reasons, which caused grave consequences.
The tragedy occurred in December 2023 in the village of Sukhy Uzhgorod district. The investigation found that the child became ill, but the mother did not seek medical help. As a result, the boy died of pneumonia. The body of the baby was discovered by neighbors and called the police.
The prosecutor in court proved that the woman did not perform basic responsibilities for child care. Moreover, in May 2023, it was deprived of parental rights regarding two older children born in 2014 and 2015.
Currently, the sentence of the court of first instance has not yet entered into force - the term of appeal is expected to be completed.
