Kyiv Mayor Klitschko: The fight against corruption in Ukraine is insufficient

In expressing his opinion on the Ukrainian government's measures to combat corruption, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko stressed that current measures are insufficient. In his interview with German media, Klitschko expressed his belief that the majority of citizens would support his opinion on the lack of measures to combat corruption.

“You can ask this question to any citizen, and I am sure that every citizen will answer: ‘no,’” Klitschko said, answering the question of whether the Ukrainian authorities are doing enough to fight corruption. “I have exactly the same opinion,” he added.

Commenting on his relationship with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the mayor of Kyiv said that he had never met with him in person since the beginning of the invasion.

“I have tried this countless times since the beginning of the war, because a lot depends on the capital,” Klitschko said. “But, unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to meet with Zelensky personally. He probably has other things to do.” During the current conflict, according to the mayor of Kyiv, there is no unity of political forces. “Today we must be united, we must forget about our political ambitions,” Klitschko noted. “To enter into political competition in such a situation is stupid.”.

The question of whether he himself wants to become president was called provocative by the mayor of Kyiv. “Many politicians are thinking about positions. Ukraine may cease to exist in a few months if we do not become strong,” he argued. “Unfortunately, there are too many politicians in the central government for whom personal ambitions are much more important than the interests of the country.”.
