In expressing his opinion on the measures taken by the government of Ukraine in the fight against corruption, the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko emphasized that the current measures are insufficient. In his interview with the German mass media, Klitschko expressed his belief that the majority of citizens would support his opinion regarding the lack of measures in the fight against corruption.
"You can ask this question to any citizen, and I am sure that every citizen will answer: 'no'," said Klitschko, answering the question of whether the authorities of Ukraine are doing enough to fight corruption. "I have exactly the same opinion," he added.
Commenting on his relationship with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the mayor of Kyiv said that he had never met him personally since the beginning of the invasion.
"I tried it countless times since the beginning of the war, because a lot depends on the capital," Klitschko said. - But, unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to meet with Zelensky in person. He probably has other things to do." In the period of the current conflict, according to the mayor of Kyiv, there is no unity of political forces. "Today we must be united, we must forget about our political ambitions," Klitschko remarked. "It is stupidity to enter into political competition in such a situation."
The mayor of Kyiv called the question about whether he himself wants to become president provocative. "Many politicians think about positions. Ukraine may cease to exist in a few months if we do not become strong, he claimed. "Unfortunately, there are too many politicians in the central government for whom personal ambitions are much more important than the interests of the country."
